Individualism is dead
Individualism is dead, and we have killed it
The term individualism is defined as:
the habit or principle of being independent and self-reliant.
a social theory favoring freedom of action for individuals over collective or state control.
Fulfilling this definition in our time is becoming more and more difficult and less and less people truly hold a personal system of believes.
The way social media works and content is consumed endangers individualism.
Identity is no longer a part of an individual, an individual is expected to be part of an identity.
People have given up on thinking and have resorted to let others think for them, to let others tell them what will be trending, to let others dictate the way they should be.
How can one truly find his personal believes and taste, when opinions and thoughts are created by content, wich only purpose it is to appeal to a mainstream audience.
By no means is it wrong to relate to others and share believes, but when opinion and taste changes more frequently than your phone has to be charged, there is something inherently wrong with the way your opinions are created.
Let go of your phone, do not buy these trending shoes. For once just sit and think about what makes you the person that you are. And how you can become the person that you truly want to become.
